What is BRAvo BRAvo is an art project designed to celebrate survival and hope through some of the very things that symbolize women and breasts - Bras. BRAvo challenges participants to take a simple bra (or camisol, sports bra, undershirt, corset, bustier, etc.) and turn it into a work of art. Creativity is required, cheekiness is encouraged and laughter makes everything more fun! Return your piece to us and prepare for a night of celebration. Your hard work is revealed at a public show opening October 8, 2010 at the Riverside Artists Gallery, 188 Front Street, Marietta, Ohio and will stand as a memorial to women, survival, loss and hope. It all begins with a $25, tax deductable entry fee. Once you've entered, let your inner artist run wild! Yes, we have some rules, but don't worry - they won't hold you back! Embellish your bra in any way you see fit - be creative (but tasteful), be serious, dedicate your bra to a friend you've lost or someone who is fighting the good fight. Lights, sequins, papier mache, fur, running water, scrapbooking, quilting, veggies - we love it all! Then, turn your bra in to us (in person or via mail) and then come to downtown Marietta for a fabulous night celebrating art and imagining a world without breast cancer. Why? The canned answer is always, Why not? We believe that breast cancer is a topic that needs to be discussed in an open fashion, without the taboos associated with the body parts affected and emotional toll it takes on a woman. The bra - or related undergarments - serves as a powerful symbol of a woman. Our goals are to serve as a conversation-starter, to raise awareness about the disease that has such a devastating impact on women and families every year - and to be an agent to lead to a cure.
